The Academy Of Cinema (AOC) is an international English-speaking film/video Academy based at the Karamanos Studio, located in Athens, Greece. The Karamanos Studio is the largest film and video production facility in Greece and the Balkans.
AOC is the only film/video program for American college credit based at a working studio in the Mediterranean. Starting dates for the next semester are listed under Programs.
Each year AOC holds professional workshops in Athens and on a Greek island.
Our programs of study offer several options to combine production courses at the Karamanos Studio with a variety of American mentoring, independent study, and intensive hands-on production opportunities, for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Film/video production courses and workshops at the Studio are designed by AOC as “reality education workshops.” All courses are hands-on with practical applications to the filmmaking process.
American college credit is available from the home university or college where the student is enrolled or from the University of Indianapolis Athens campus via a transcript.
Students will be observing actual productions in progress on the nine stages at the Studio. Students will be allowed access to “live sets.”
They will be sharing conversation and meals with international filmmakers at the Studio restaurant. Instructors are working professional filmmakers from America and Europe.
In 2004, Martin Scorcese, acted as the executive producer on a feature film entitled, “Brides.” The production was filmed entirely in Greece and the major set, the interior of a ship, was filmed at the Karamanos Studio. Since 2004, a number of other American and European feature film productions have filmed in Greece. In September 2007, Tom Hanks produced the feature film, entitled “Mamma Mia” on the Greek island of Skopelos. AOC held an acting and writing workshop at the same time the film was in production on the island.
